Analysis of the 'James Bond' method

"James Bond's Effective Roulette Method"
140 dollars bet on High Number (19-36)
50 dollars bet on Six Number 13-18
10 dollars on zero (as insurance)

At face value, the James bond method ("JBM") looks quite practical. After all, it covers 24 numbers, which means that in terms of real estate, 61.5% of the wheel is covered. However, the player using this method has sacrificed his earnings potential since he is basically wagering $200 in hopes of winning much less than that. Eventually, the house advantage will defeat him since, even though his numbers come up more frequently, his losses will more than eclipse his winnings, eroding his funds with each spin of the wheel.

The fundamental weakness of this method, thus, is that the JBM has no vertex, no force multipliers: it is in essence a series of non overlapping sustainability bets, but the betting system itself is unsustainable. In fact, ironically, the insurance bet is the best money earner in this system.

Bottom line: adequate in terms of real estate (though just barely) but wanting in terms of Force Multipliers. We have to rate the JBM as a resounding no go.

Key Concepts in a Successful Roulette Strategy

Force multipliers: Multiple bets that intersect creating a double, triple or more payoff. A vertex of bets.

Real estate: The amount of space you take up on the roulette table. The more real estate, the lower the yield, unless you can offset that using Force Multipliers.

Sustainability Bets: Bets made to take up real estate but not necessarily to win the big money.

Schwerpunkt: The number which, when landed on, will make you win big. Usually at the vertex of multiple bets.

Insurance: A standard bet (usually two or three chips) on the O to ensure that you don't lose all your bets.

High Yield Bets: Bets on a vertex.

Low Yield Bets: Bets made to take up real estate and ensure sustainability.

Vertex: The convergence of two or more bets, i.e. two chips on a red 28 when a bet has also been made on RED.

How to beat the odds...

Only one thing can beat the odds.... Timing.

Plus you need a strategy, 'strategic depth' (i.e. sufficient funds) and some luck!

Inherent Table Bias?!?!

After having considered the wheel, I then turned to the table to seek out any table bias.... and there is a very very obvious bias: the question is whether this can be exploited. On the third row there are eight reds and only four blacks; thus, by betting on the third row, you also cover an inordinate number of red squares. Now, if you combine that with a bet on BLACK, will this give you an advantage? I think the experts will say that whatever combination you try, the house advantage is always the same, i.e. 5.26%.

But it seems that this way you get the maximum advantage of covering all BLACK bets and eight red ones.... I will have to try this out and report back. It does seem to hold promise.

Strange fact

Q: If you add up all the numbers on the roulette wheel, how much do they add up to?

A: 666

wow.... weird coincidence! (or is it?!?!)

Inherent Wheel Bias?

Many Vegas success stories have focused on those who have managed to detect wheel bias on a specific wheel, then placed bets to exploit the shift in odds. however, is it possible that the wheel has intrinsic imbalances that can be exploited?

After a careful study, it does seem that one section of the wheel is weighted toward odd numbers (15 to 13). Nonetheless, this intrinsic wheel bias can not be exploited in itself... the only way to exploit it would be to detect a specific biais on a specific wheel favoring this area, then you would have the knowledge to place bets on ODD numbers as well as numbers specifically in that area.

HIGH and LOW numbers, in the same way as RED and BLACK, are side by side except for two LOW numbers which are side by side(5 and 10). Again, there is no way to exploit this lack of symmetry except if a specific wheel was biaised in this particular area of the wheel.

James Bond's roulette method

This method was apparently favored by Bond (though I'm not sure what the source is):

"James Bond's Effective Roulette Method"

140 dollars bet on High Number (19-36)
50 dollars bet on Six Number 13-18
10 dollars on zero (as insurance)

And now you can see, that you have 2/3 of table covered. Let's spin roulette: If there is number from High Number, your net profit is 80 dollars, if there is number from Six Number, your net profit is 100 dollars, if there is zero, your net profit is 160 dollars, if there is some another number, you lose and next time you double your bets. (like in Martingale) "

Upon analysis, I have to say that it is quite risky. True, 2/3 of the table is covered, but you are risking $200 to make $80 to $160; as a result, in the long run the advantage is still with the house. It does not give you an advantage nor can it deliver consistent results.

This system gives better odds by sacrificing profits, less table risk but more financial risk, unless you have detected a wheel bias which would fall consistently into the top numbers, in which case this would be a winning system. However, you would have to play for a long time before you benefitted fully from the biased odds.

Still, an interesting strategy to consider.....
